Heat Pumped Hot water

We've had the Heat Pump installed that I mentioned in this post.

Joe the plumber was very good: organised the electrician and did all the paperwork for the rebates.

I called our electricity supplier and asked them to change us to Off Peak 2 from Off Peak 1. This is because the Heat Pump takes the heat from the outside temperature and uses it to heat the water, so when it's warmer outside their is more heat to use. Off Peak 2 turns on sooner and turns off later, when it's generally warmer. Here Off Peak one comes on around 11PM and turns off at 7AM.

Joe installed it Wednesday afternoon so we weren't too sure how usable the hot water would be the next morning.

Wednesday night was cold too! We're warmer than Katoomba, but Katoomba got down to 4.8C that night.

When we measured the hot water temperature in the morning it was 43C, so quite usable... and impressive too: The Dux Heat Pump managed to get enough energy from air temperatures around 6C to heat the water to 43C in 8 hours!

The next morning it was up to 49C, obviously not starting with quite so cold water. By law our hot water is limited to a max of 50C (I guess that means that the hot water loses 1C from the cylinder to the tap?? )

So, as far as the water is concerned, we're pretty impressed. It will be interesting to see what the next power bill will be.
